UK Javelin Throws Association continued their series of Masterclasses with the South edition taking place on Sunday 23rd November 2025 at the Mountbatten Centre, Portsmouth.
These Masterclasses bring together developing junior athletes and top regional and national throws coaches to work on the technical aspects of throwing as well as understanding how to train their bodies to cope with the demands of javelin throwing through strength, co-ordination and plyometric work.
The morning was spent out on the track, with a round robin of groups focusing on the run approach and the throws themselves. It was fantastic to see so many young athletes who are already representing their clubs, counties, regions and national teams, taking on board the valuable coaching lessons of the day.
After lunch the work moved indoors with the focus switched to the work that underpins the ability to excel in their throws.
Observing the real time learning of the young athletes, all of whom have such amazing potential, from the experienced coaches is quite something. Our athletics futures rely on the hard work of the athletes with the dedication and support of the coaches, volunteers and families that surround the athletes.
The masterclass was a joy to photograph, you can view the gallery from the day here.

Youth sports are more than just games; they are where passion ignites and character takes shape. Capturing these fleeting moments honours not only the action, but the spirit, dedication, and lessons of teamwork and resilience that young athletes carry with them through life.
